One thing I've learned after working in the printing industry since 2015 is that paper has a personality. Every paper stock behaves a little differently depending on its weight, coating, texture, humidity, and even the weather.
Most days, everything runs smoothly. Other days... well... the printer has other plans.
Sometimes a sheet feeds crooked. Sometimes two sheets decide they're best friends. And sometimes the printer creates a paper sculpture that definitely wasn't part of the customer's order!
It's All Part of the Process
Professional printing isn't just about running a job through a machine. It's about paying attention, making adjustments, and solving problems before the finished product ever reaches the customer.
That's why you'll often see us:
-
Adjusting paper guides
-
Changing machine settings
-
Cleaning rollers
-
Testing a few sheets before a full run
-
Clearing the occasional paper jam (or three!)
Every paper stock has its own quirks, and learning how each one behaves is part of becoming a better printer.
Behind the Scenes
Here are a few real-life moments from the print shop when things didn't go exactly according to plan.

While paper jams might slow us down for a few minutes, they're also a reminder that printing is a craft. Every finished piece represents problem-solving, attention to detail, and a little patience along the way.
The next time you receive a beautifully printed invitation, brochure, or stack of business cards, just know there were probably a few behind-the-scenes moments that helped make it happen.
Because sometimes... paper likes to keep us on our toes.
